New Irthlingborough mayor elected as 'heartfelt gratitude' given by councillor leaving post
Cllr John Farrar has been elected the new mayor of Irthlingborough, and will serve in the role for the 2026 to 2027 year.
Cllr John Farrar currently serves on Irthlingborough Town Council for the Waterloo Ward, and had previously served as the town crier, and its mayor in 2022 to 2023.
At the annual meeting of Irthlingborough Town Council on May 19, the incoming mayor gave thanks to outgoing mayor, Cllr Caroline Cross, for her efforts during her mayoral year, which included attending many community events throughout her tenure.
The outgoing mayor, who is also a councillor for the Waterloo Ward, said the role was ‘the honour of my life’.

She said: “I offer my heartfelt gratitude to all who shared this unique journey with me.
"I, along with many consorts, took Irthlingborough to our surrounding towns and counties; eager to meet and interact with the many unsung heroes who work day in and day out for the common good.
"We embraced our neighbours and gave to numerous Northamptonshire causes and charities.
"I have loved showcasing our town and promoting our organisations, industry, environment and heritage.
"Thank you to everyone who supported me during my term of office. I am grateful to local groups and concerns for making me feel so welcome. It has been a privilege to witness the leadership, commitment and sense of belonging that exists in our midst. Thank you, residents of Irthlingborough, for your community spirit and for warmly embracing newcomers to our town. It has been the humblest of duties to represent you.
"I feel that I have fulfilled the role to the best of my ability. I gave it my all."
Cllr Jon Gray was elected deputy mayor for the forthcoming year, reprising his role from last year.
