New gift shop at HMP Five Wells to help support prisoners’ ‘journey of rehabilitation’ with workshop creations
A new gift shop at HMP Five Wells prison in Wellingborough has opened, showcasing the creations of prison inmates made in workshop sessions.
The shop, based at HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough, supports prisoner rehabilitation by allowing them to develop professional skills in design, manufacturing, and craftsmanship.
Wayne Browne, business enterprise and communities manager at HMP Five Wells said: "This shop plays an important role in bridging the gap between our prisoners' hard work and the outside community.
"By purchasing these items, visitors are not just buying a unique, handmade product - they are supporting a journey of rehabilitation and helping individuals gain the skills necessary for a positive restart in society."

Visitors can go to the shop at the Doddington Road prison’s main entrance, to view and buy a range of handcrafted goods and items including ceramics, wooden garden furniture and home accessories, bags, teddy bears crafted from recycled denim, and prints such as custom-made signs, posters, and greeting cards.
All prisoners at HMP Five Wells are paid a wage for their labour in the workshops, and proceeds from sales from the shop are reinvested directly back into the workshops.
The shop is open daily from 8am until 4pm, with all purchases being cash only.
