A post in the community Facebook group 'Corby Chats Back' said: "What was that bang the whole of Corby must have heard it at 22.55 on Monday night."
The post has so far attracted more than 70 comments with residents speculating about the bang.
Residents in Willowbrook, Danseholme, Oakley Vale, Beanfield, Newark, and Kingswood all reported hearing the loud noise.
Some speculated that it was a firework while others said it was too loud to be a firework.

One resident said: "That is no way a firework more like a car being burnt and the tank exploding."
Another person added: "It's gotta be more than firework if it's being heard up Danesholme, Willowbrook and Beanfield."
However, others claimed to have seen a firework and said: "It was a firework not a gun. I saw it as was round outside my back gate."
Another Corby resident said they had seen a firework too.
Northamptonshire Police said they had received no reports of a loud bang.
