Man sentenced for domestic abuse after attempting to run his partner over in Irthlingborough
Aaron Matthew Wright has been sentenced to four years in prison for domestic abuse, and attempting to run over his ex-partner.
Wright, aged 39, pleaded guilty to five offences relating to domestic abuse in December 2025, and has since been sentenced at Northampton Crown Court, according to a statement from Northamptonshire Police. A police spokesperson said officers responded to a call from a woman on the afternoon of June 24, 2025 stating her ex-partner, Aaron Matthew Wright, had attempted to run her over in his car in Addington Road, Irthlingborough after an argument between the pair. Following the argument, Wright followed her in his car, and CCTV of the incident showed Wright mounting the pavement in front of the victim, and reversing the car in her direction, police said. The woman managed to flee the scene unharmed.
PC Hayley Wollacott from the Force’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit (DAIU) said: “I am really pleased to see Aaron Wright handed this custodial sentence as it demonstrates the seriousness with which the police and the courts take incidents of domestic abuse.
“I’d like to thank the survivor of Wright’s abuse for her support and her bravery and I hope the conclusion of this case allows her to move forward with her life.

“Having spoken to her following the conclusion of the case, she thanked everyone from Northamptonshire Police involved in the investigation for the care they showed her - from the response officers to colleagues in the Force Control Room and everyone in the DAIU.
“The positive treatment she received restored her faith in the police and it was heartwarming to hear that she felt heard, listened to and believed.”
When police launched an investigation following Wright’s arrest they found out about two other incidents that had taken place earlier that year in April, which included Wright biting the woman’s hand, and another related to him restricting her breathing with his hands around her neck, the police spokesperson said.
Wright was charged in the early hours of June 26 with criminal damage, intentional strangulation, dangerous driving, and assault.
He was also charged with controlling and coercive behaviour in connection with his behaviour towards the woman throughout their 18-month relationship. During that time, police say his ‘excessive jealousy’ led to restrictions being imposed on her, seriously effecting her day-to-day life.
Wright, previously of Donegal Close, Coventry, returned to Northampton Crown Court on January 29, where he was sentenced to four years in prison.
