Man hospitalised and camper van destroyed in blaze at Wellingborough petrol station

A man was hospitalised and a camper van destroyed following yesterday’s blaze at Morrisons petrol station in Wellingborough.

On arrival, fire crews found a transit camper van fully on fire on the forecourt of the petrol station.

The camper van was destroyed, while three fuel pumps were also damaged, as was the canopy above the station.

A spokesman for Northants Fire & Rescue Service told the Northants Telegraph that crews immediately started using hose reel jets to prevent the spread of the fire and put cordons in place to close the area off to the public.

They isolated the petrol pumps and managed to extinguish the fire.

A man was treated by paramedics before being transported to NGH by ambulance after being caught in the fire in Sharman Road.

Crews left the scene at 3.30pm, handing it over to Northamptonshire Police.

Onlookers reportedly called 999 after a loud bang was heard, and subsequently Oxford Street was closed in both directions, but it is now re-open.

The condition of the man injured in the blaze is not yet known.

The air ambulance has been contacted for comment.
