Man charged with murder of Kettering 71-year-old father-of-six appears in court

A man charged in connection with the murder of Kettering resident 71-year-old John Gerard Boyle has appeared before Northampton Magistrates Court today (Thursday, November 13).

John David Martin Mills, 45, who gave a Kettering address, was charged with murder and theft of a motor vehicle – a blue Vauxhall Astra – in connection with the incident.

Mr Boyle was found dead inside his flat in Leatherland Court, Kettering, at about 6.30pm on Saturday, November 8, after police officers were called to reports of a concern for welfare.

Mr Mills, described by police as ‘a white British man’, was wearing a grey t-shirt and grey tracksuit.

He stood with his hands on his hips to confirm his name, age and address as Carrington Street, Kettering.

The court was told he had also been living in nearby Victoria Street for a time.

Sitting in the dock, Mr Mills muttered to the court custody officer, shaking his head much of the time.

When Mr Mills was told he would be remanded in custody to appear at Northampton Crown Court tomorrow (Friday, November 14), he said ‘that’s fine’.

Three others - a 42-year-old man and two women aged 27 and 35 - have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
