Traffic was held up on a busy Kettering road last night (Sunday) - so some lost swans could safely be taken home.

A member of the public called police at about 8.15pm, concerned that two swans and their seven cygnets were in the middle of Pytchley Road, heading towards Wicksteed Park.

Officers attended and bettered the efforts of PCs Angel and Butterman in the comedy classic film Hot Fuzz - safely catching the swans so they wouldn’t come to any harm.

A Kettering Police Team spokesman said the community team showed quick thinking with the swans in danger.

After a call to the rural PCSO, who was off-duty, they located the lake they were from within minutes.

And they were later moved to their home by the town's leisure village without any stress.
