‘Long and painful road’ ahead for Kettering man Marcus who fell down stairs on Boxing Day

A Kettering man who fell down the stairs on Boxing Day remains in a coma, as his family have given an update.

Marcus Stewart, has since had critical surgery on Sunday, January 4, to relieve pressure on his brain.

Donna Dinley, Marcus’ sister said: “Marcus was rushed into emergency surgery to remove a significant part of his skull. The pressure in Marcus’ brain has not stabilised enough and it became too dangerous to not perform the surgery.

“After just over three hours Marcus came out of the surgery which will allow the pressure to be released. In many months time a titanium plate will be fitted to his skull but for now he is still sedated and in an induced coma.

“His road ahead will be long and painful—physically, emotionally, and financially.”

Marcus, 54, fell down the stairs and struck the corner of the skirting board in the early hours of Boxing Day (December 26).

He was taken to Kettering General Hospital by paramedics and later transferred to Coventry Hospital where tests revealed a fractured skull and brain bleed.

Now, Marcus is fighting for his life, facing significant medical rehabilitation once he comes out of the coma.

The family set up a fundraiser for Marcus to cover travel and accommodation costs, basic living needs, and his long-term rehabilitation and recovery. As of yesterday (January 5), the fundraiser sits at £4,333.

Donna added: “Thank you for showing compassion, love, and support during a time when our family needs it most."
