A quartet of fundraisers have braved the shave to boost the bank balance of a Little Irchester animal rescue and welfare charity.

Angie and Stuart Taylor and Roy and Annie Marriott held a sponsored head shave to support Animals In Need, the charity that Roy founded 30 years ago.

In order to carry on their work rescuing and re-homing animals across Northants the charity usually has a full calendar of fundraising activities but the coronavirus pandemic has hit their efforts.

Annie Marriott from the charity said: "It was all Angie's idea. When we started getting in donations we had to go along with it.

"It's absolutely awful when I look in the mirror. A 'friend' donated £100 for me to shave my eyebrows, and £50 for Roy's. I think he looks OK but I'm going to buy a hat.

"It feels chilly and a little prickly."

The friends' cash boost will be put towards rescuing sick, injured, trapped and distressed wild and domestic animals, and to provide veterinary treatment where necessary, care for and rehabilitation of animals until they can be released or re-homed.

So far they have been pledged £2,267 by supporters on their Just Giving page after the head shave was featured on the charity's Facebook page.

Annie, who is the shelter manager, added: "I would much rather shave my head than run a marathon - that takes too much training."
