KGH coronavirus death toll rises to 72

Kettering General Hospital has confirmed two more Covid-19 patients have died.

The tragic update came as NHS England announced a further 665 people who had tested positive for the virus had lost their lives, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 16,272.

Nationally patients who died were between the ages of 26 and 102 and a total of 26 had no known underlying health condition.

The actual number is expected to be much higher as the figure does not include deaths in the community and care homes.

Of the two KGH deaths confirmed today, one patient died on April 16 with the second on April 19.

It brings the total number of deaths at the Rothwell Road hospital to 72.

Five more deaths were registered at Northampton General Hospital.

The county death toll now stands at 189 - 72 at KGH, 115 at NGH and two at Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust sites.
