Kettering's Phyllis celebrates 105th birthday in style

A woman who was born during the First World War has celebrated her 105th birthday in style at a care home in Kettering.

Phyllis Hunt who is one of Northamptonshire's oldest residents, marked the occasion on April 30 with an afternoon tea party at Thorndale care home in Malham Drive.

The former sewing machinist had visits from her grand-daughter Donna and great-grand-daughter Sophie, and she also received video messages from her family including her niece who lives in America.

Ms Hunt was 24-years-old when she married her husband, Frank Norman Hunt.

During the Second World War she took on a role repairing airplane wings and later started a family with Frank, going on to have one child, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Jemima Adams, manager of the Shaw healthcare-operated home, said: “We always try our best to keep spirits high at Thorndale so despite the ongoing pandemic, we wanted to make Phyllis' birthday as enjoyable as possible.

“Despite her advanced years, Phyllis hasn’t lost her wit and it was a pleasure to celebrate her birthday in style.”
