She served as a sergeant in the RAF, a role she said she enjoyed and kept her very busy.

Birthday girl Elsie, who moved to Elm Bank care home in 2016, said: "My son John and his wife Maureen are both very supportive of me and visit me daily.

"I also have grandchildren and great-grandchildren who mean the world to me."

Nicole Hunt, who works at the care home, said: "Elsie is a lovely lady who always puts a smile on my face. She has a cracking sense of humour and is always having a laugh!

"I feel privileged to know Elsie and the rest of the team also feel the same.

"We hope you have a lovely birthday Elsie!"
