Kettering Scout group charity hike raises £1k to support local youth services
The 23rd Kettering Scout Group has completed an annual fundraising hike, raising over £1,000 to support Youth Works and the group’s own programme of activities.
A total of eight participants set off from the historic Lyveden New Bield, navigating a 15-mile route through the Northamptonshire countryside.
The group followed a mixture of woodland trails, footpaths, and open rural landscapes as they made their way back toward their campsite.
Leaders from the 23rd Kettering Scout Group said they were proud of the hikers and thanked the community partners who took part.

A group spokesman said: “The involvement of Kettering Green Party, Rotary Club and Youthworks highlighted the strong local commitment to supporting young people and strengthening community connections.
“The challenge was designed to test resilience and outdoor skills while raising vital funds for local youth initiatives.
“The group extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, participated, or supported the event, helping to make a real difference for young people across the community. We can't wait to hold our fourth event next year and support another deserving charity.”
After completing the trek, the group continued the Scouting adventure by sleeping in hammocks and cooking over an open fire, embracing the ‘spirit of outdoor living’.
The immersive experience reinforced key skills such as self-reliance, teamwork, and problem-solving—elements at the heart of Scouting and youth development.
Funds raised will be shared between Youth Works, an organisation providing support, education, and wellbeing services for young people, and the 23rd Kettering Scout Group, enabling continued investment in equipment, activities, and opportunities that enrich the lives of local Scouts.
