Kettering Science Academy have raised £500 for The National Autistic Society after holding a virtual coffee morning for Autism Awareness Week.

The school has supported the charity for the past three years but this year KSA had to get creative and hold a virtual coffee morning. They smashed their fundraising target of £100.

KSA's SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) Kayleigh-Jay Incles, said: "We have been fundraising for the NAS for 3 years now and we were named ‘Fundraising School of the Year’ in our first year of doing this.

"Obviously not being at school meant we couldn’t hold our annual coffee morning on April 3 but we decided to hold a virtual one instead.

"Special thanks has to go to Ms Evans, head of English and our Twitter guru who put together a fantastic poster and advertised our coffee morning daily and our Principal Mr Segalini who agreed to the event and always supports us in our endeavours."

Ms Incles created a JustGiving page for the event and within five days the page had raised £500.

The money will go to The National Autistic Society, a charity that supports autistic people with services like an Autism Helpline.

Ms Incles said: "We are so overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity especially in such difficult circumstances. KSA is very much a family.

"From our CEO to our principal, from the senior leadership team to our catering staff - everyone comes together to support each other. I am so proud to work for KSA and Brooke Weston Trust.

"Inclusion is everyone’s business and every teacher is a teacher of SEN. KSA holds our students and their families at the heart of everything we do - we truly are SENsational."

KSA remains open to children of key workers and Ms Incles said it was great to do something that did not involve the current pandemic.
