Kettering pubs reopen for pint-starved punters - Picture special

Pub-goers have been getting used to the 'new normal'

Pubs across Kettering reopened their doors today (Saturday July 4) to thirsty drinkers who had missed popping into their local for a swift pint and to socialise.

Punters were greeted by hand sanitiser, screens and a new set of rules to ensure staff and customers are safe from Covid-19.

Enjoying a pint together in The Peacock pub in Lower Street were mates Roger and his friend Tommy Higgins.

Roger said: "I'm glad to be able to support a local business. It was good to be back although the new layout of the tables is strange."

Tommy, 73, said: "I've been lonely and it's good to come and see my friends."

At The Briars were Kevin Lynch, and Helen and Kev Gribble.

Kev said: "The mental health thing during lockdown has been driving us bonkers. We got here at noon to make sure we got a table.

"We felt a bit apprehensive before we came but we're very happy with their safety measures."

Laura Kilbourn was glad to be back at The Wayfarerers. She said: "This is our family. It's the best pub in Kettering. You can feel the the love and the vibe."
