Kettering 'man with knife' malicious report an 'utter waste of police time'

A report called in to Northamptonshire Police that a man had a knife has been described as an 'utter waste of police time."

Officers had been alerted by a member of the public to a 'man with a knife' near Mill Road in Kettering today (Wednesday).

Passers by spotted a number of police cars on Montagu Street, close to its junction with Thorngate Street.

But it was a malicious report and a man has now been arrested.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "This happened at about 11.45am when we received reports that a man was in possession of a knife near Mill Road, Kettering.

"We deployed and located the man described in Montagu Street.

"It turns out this was a malicious report and was an utter waste of police time."

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time.
