Kettering General Hospital student midwife on the look-out for teams to be part of netball tournament in support of local bereavement charity
Bayleigh Layram-Smith is combining her passion for netball with her role as a midwife at KGH by holding a charity netball tournament and family fun day in support of the Twinkling Stars Appeal.
The tournament is planned to consist of 14 teams, and is to be held at Raunds Manor School on August 18.
Bayleigh said: “I am a first year student midwife at Kettering General Hospital (KGH) and have seen first hand how upsetting and traumatic baby loss can be.
"While the maternity unit does the utmost to support these families, facilities at the unit could be greatly improved.

"I would like to fundraise for Twinkling Stars by combining my passion for netball and vocation of midwifery.”
The tournament at Manor School is being organised with the intention of raising cash to help Twinkling Stars achieve its aim of building a new bereavement suite at KGH. The current bereavement room is within the labour ward, and the charity would see a new, separate facility.
The charity hopes to raise at least £375,000, with its current total sitting at £283,700, and Bayleigh’s netball tournament will also include a raffle, bouncy castle and various food and drink stalls to help the charity get closer to its goal.
Kettering General Hospital’s lead bereavement midwife, Lisa Drummond, said: “Each year we care for up to 100 families who suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby.
"While we work very closely and supportively with parents in this situation we know that our facilities really let us down and we want to change that.”
