Kettering day centre 1.92-acre site goes on sale for more than £750,000
The ‘£7m’ sell-off of buildings and land owned by North Northants Council (NNC) has begun in Kettering.
In February NNC’s executive agreed that the The Henley Centre in Saunders Close, Kettering, would be demolished to address anti-social behaviour and ‘support future development opportunities’.
A sales board has been erected in Meadow Road Park close to the 1.92-acre site being marketed by BTG Eddisons for offers above £750,000 plus VAT.
The sale of NNC-owned buildings deemed surplus to requirement, unproductive or too expensive to maintain, could unlock funds for cash-strapped services.

BTG Eddisons’ sales brochure states: “The existing buildings have been deemed unsuitable for continued occupation and demolition has been approved to facilitate future redevelopment for the site."
The securely gated site covers about 1.92 acres, accessed from Saunders Close. The complex extends to about 18,143 sq ft.
Any redevelopment changing the site’s use would be subject to planning permission.

The former Henley Centre was historically used as a specialist facility providing day services, education, training and support for children and adults with learning disabilities and severe disabilities. The site operated for many decades as an important community resource serving the local area.
Original buildings were constructed in the early 1960s, initially operating as a residential and support facility. The site was repurposed in 1974 to accommodate social services functions, including office accommodation, a resource centre and associated parking.
NNC inherited the building from Northamptonshire County Council, which used it for its adult services department, a day centre for adults with severe disabilities alongside administrative offices.

The site is available to purchase at an asking price of offers in excess of £750,000 exclusive of VAT. The current permitted use of the site falls within use class E of the Town and County planning order.
