A Kettering care home's Tik Tok video showing residents dancing has gone viral on the social media platform even though they "don't know what it is".

Westhill Park care home provides residential care for the elderly and those with dementia and has recently started posting videos on TikTok and has had over 100,000 likes on their most popular clip.

Lifestyle manager Hannah Kinloch has been making the videos with lifestyle assistant Sharon Kawonga. Hannah said: "It's keeping spirits high. We are trying to keep morale up."

Tik Tok is a social media application that allows users to share videos of themselves lip-syncing, dancing or joining in other viral trends like 'booping' a pet on the nose.

Westhill Park's videos have shown the residents dancing and the most liked clip has 125,000 likes.

Hannah said embracing Tik Tok bridges the gap between the elderly and the young: "It's all about showing the young that just because you're in a home, it doesn't mean you are just sitting there.

"Tik Tok is now a regular activity in my planner.

They don't know what it is, we tell them we are going to do a lovely dance for our families."

All families sign a disclaimer form about Westhill Park's social media use and Hannah asks the residents if they want to take part.

Westhill Park closed the home to visitors as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus before the government's advice so families have been unable to see their loved ones for a while.

Hannah said the home has been organising video calling so families can keep in touch, but starting a Tik Tok account is all part of showing that things are carrying on as normal in the home and the residents are fine.

"We do so much with our residents.

"It's nice to have something light hearted and a bit of fun."
