Kettering businesses rally round to help nurse scammed out of £1,600 by men who claimed they would fix fence
An independent building merchant in Kettering has teamed up with fellow businesses to help a nurse who was conned out of money for fencing work that was never completed.
Police are investigating after stock was stolen from the yard of Joseph Parr Northants in Telford Way, Kettering last month.
The business shared an appeal about the theft on their social media, describing it as a ‘negative situation’ for themselves.
But what happened also had a knock-on effect for a local nurse who had worked hard and saved £1,600 to have her fencing repaired.

Not only were materials stolen, a group of three men accepted £1,600 from the nurse for fencing work that they failed to complete.
This left her out of pocket and without the fencing she had worked so hard to save for.
A spokesman for Joseph Parr Northants told the Northants Telegraph: “Rather than allowing an already difficult situation to become even more devastating for her, we decided to do what we could to turn something negative into something positive.
"As a company, we made the decision to let her keep the fencing materials completely free of charge.
"Alongside this, Ian from Joseph Parr Northants, John from JD Fencing and Sean Craig from SC Carpentry & Building then went one step further and installed the fence for her, also completely free of charge.
"We know we can’t undo what happened or replace the money she lost, but we could make sure that, after everything she had already been through, she wasn’t left without the fence she had worked so hard to pay for.”
The incident has been reported to Northants Police and they have confirmed that they are investigating.
A spokesman for the force said: “This happened at about 10.45am on July 14 when three men entered the shop.
"Whilst one of them distracted the sales staff, the other two stole materials.
"We are investigating and anyone with information should contact us on 101 quoting incident number 26000415383.”
