Isham festival of yarn bombing to lift lockdown spirits

The colourful display was stitched together by villagers

Villagers in Isham wanting to cheer up their community have been busy stitching their way to a colourful yarn bombing display to bring some fun during lockdown.

Home knitters, crochet experts and crafters have creatively used wool and other materials to festoon the village gates, trees and gardens including pom-poms, tree cosies and even a bobble hat for the village phone box.

The festival of all things woolly, was the brainchild of resident Margaret Buchanan who wanted to raise villagers' spirits as well as cheering up passing pedestrians and motorists.

She said: "It's been absolutely brilliant and has brought the village together to collaborate with each other donating wool and working as a team.

"Marlene our former lollipop lady who cleans out the bus stop every week decorated the bus stop and deserves a special mention."

Isham resident Vivienne has joined in with a display outside her home and she has enjoyed seeing the passers-by taking in the visual treat.

She said: "I am really pleased to take part in this. It's absolutely joyous to see the reactions of the people. I've been round and they are brilliant."

The yarn bombing will stay in place for at least three weeks.
