An Irchester tech company is offering help to get self-isolating over-60s online and using video chat services so they can stay in touch with their families.

NewGen IT Services is offering to help older people who might not be already set up on video calling software like FaceTime, Skype, Zoom or others.

Suraj Dholakia from NewGen said: “We are asking those over 60 who may not all be tech savvy, we are asking them to give us a call and one of our guys will help them remotely to get online and set them up with Skype, Zoom, or other software which they can then send on to their family.

”We would be helping them over the phone and then remotely jump on their machines to set it up.”

Suraj said NewGen have been running as an IT service for businesses and consumers for six years and use an industry software that lets them remotely access people’s computer to set up software, and this is how they would help isolating over-60s to download video calling apps like Skype.

He said anyone with questions could call NewGen or visit their website.

Suraj said: “We have had a couple of requests (for help) today.

“There was a 92-year-old man who wanted some help and another guy who has his own business.”

He said NewGen IT Services staff are all now working remotely because they are able to, but want to help those stuck at home for the foreseeable future.

Suraj said: “We have to carry on, we are an IT support service.

People shouldn’t suffer being in isolation.”
