Investigation promise after isolated Wellingborough green space used for tonnes of fly-tipped rubbish

An isolated Wellingborough green space used for tonnes of fly-tipped rubbish will be cleared by North Northants Council at a cost to local taxpayers, with the authority promising an investigation.

Cromwell Spinney, a strip of woodland, borders Park Farm Industrial Estate near Napier Close – but is accessed via farm tracks.

Despite efforts to block entrances with concrete barriers, remains of what is believed to be cannabis factories as well as household junk have been dumped.

Among the hundreds of black bin bags filled with compost, there is a burnt-out car, children’s toys, clothing and asbestos debris.

The planned clean-up operation by North Northants Council will begin once the ground is dry enough to allow suitable vehicles to be used on the site.

A spokesman for North Northants Council said: “The council takes fly-tipping very seriously. We are aware of the fly-tipping in Cromwell Spinney and this is under investigation.

"At this stage we are unable to comment further until the investigation is complete.”
