Hundreds attend Corby Remembrance Sunday service as town pays respects to fallen

Hundreds of residents have joined dignitaries and veterans to pay their respects at Corby War Memorial to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in wars and conflicts.

The parade, organised by Corby Royal British Legion and Corby Town Council, marched with bands to Corby Old Village outside St John’s Church to where families, veterans, members of the emergency services, uniformed organisations and residents joined in a service at the war memorial.

Placing the first poppy wreath in the shape of a cross, was Kerry Ashworth, the mother of Corby soldier, Lance Corporal James Ashworth VC who was posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross for his actions in Afghanistan.

Other tributes to the fallen were laid by Deputy Lord Lt Mandy Young, Mayor of Corby Cllr Callum Reilly and MP for Corby and East Northants Lee Barron.
