Plans for a huge 60,000 sq m warehouse on the edge of Burton Latimer have gone on display.

Work at the Segro Park development, just off Junction 10 of the A14, is under way and one distribution site - set to be occupied by Bunzl - is scheduled to be completed by the summer.

Now plans have been submitted for another warehouse next door which will be almost three times the size with floorspace spanning the size of eight football pitches.

The speculative development, if approved would see the building built to be 377m long and have 100 dock level doors, with 601 car parking spaces and 60 electric vehicle bays.

It's not known how many jobs it would create but, with a 24-7 operation planned, it is likely to be hundreds.

A planning statement said: "The proposal represent a high quality development, which reflects the principals agreed as part of the outline planning permission and are appropriate to the scheme as a whole.

"The development represents a substantial investment to the area and will help to promote and support employment growth and stimulate economic regeneration to the area, cohesive with regional and local aspirations.

"It is anticipated that the development will act as a catalyst for further regeneration to create a number of new jobs and inject much needed investment into the local community."

The plans form the latest jobs boost for the Segro Park development.

In January fast food giant McDonald's submitted plans for a new drive-thru there, creating between 65 and 100 jobs.

A decision on the latest warehousing bid could be made by June.
