One Corby family were treated to enough food for five happy meals after their children put up posters saying how much they were missing their favourite food.

The Nicole Rawson and her family from Wareham Green on the Beanfield Estate put colourful home made posters in their windows supporting the NHS and saying how much they missed their McDonald’s.

After the posters were spotted by the fast food chain - which shut every one of its 3,500 UK restaurants more than a month ago as a result of the coronavirus epidemic - Andrew, the store manager of the new Corby Southern Gateway restaurant dropped-off a mammoth bag of chicken nuggets, fries and tomato ketchup. He even included Happy Meal packaging.

Speaking on social media, Glyn Pashley, who owns McDonald’s franchises across the Midlands including in Corby and Kettering, said: “Very proud of business manager Andrew, for showing such compassion and community spirit at this difficult time.

”Thank you Andrew. Keep up the good work and stay safe everyone.”

In a post to thank the chain, Nicole said: “My kids made a poster about how they miss McDonald’s.

”We just had a knock on the door from the manager with enough for five happy meals.

”So kind of him. My kids are very happy now. Thank you very much.”

The brand new restaurant had only been open for 19 days when it had to shut because of Covid-19.

McDonald’s said that it will open some of its restaurants from May 13 with a limited menu for delivery only and with strict social distancing measures in place. It has not revealed which restaurants will be open.

Last month the restaurant revealed the secret recipe for its popular sausage and egg McMuffin to cheer people up during lockdown.
