House of the Dragon star to help launch limited edition Kettering Rum

Diners at a Kettering restaurant will be able to enjoy the taste of Thailand and the Caribbean when a new rum is launched this month.

The menu of Border-Clash in Market Place already blends the heritage of owners and partners Aaron Thomas and Kanitta Thongbut.

Aaron has been perfecting the recipe over two years combining Caribbean sorrel and coconut sugar from Thailand to create a dark red drink.

But now the bar is ready to launch their new Kettering Rum – inspired by the town and promoted with an advert filmed by actor/director Wil Johnson.

Aaron said: “There’s never been a rum named after where we live. It’s made from Thai coconut sugar and Caribbean sorrel, and distilled in Market Harborough.

"The advert is really amazing. Everything about it is inspired by Kettering. We shot it in Border-Clash, Wicksteed Park and the KLV estate woodland. The extras are our customers.”

Both the rum and the advert will be screened at a special ‘First Pour’ event on Sunday, March 29, where punters can enjoy food and try the new drink.

Owner Aaron will host a Q&A with director Wil Johnson, who portrayed Vaemond Velaryon in House of the Dragon, actor Simon Nuckley, and distiller James Singlehurst from Revival Rum.

The limited run of 100 bottles will then go on sale after a quick tasting session before finishing off with music.

Aaron said: “I’m thrilled we can share Kettering Rum with everybody else. I’m elated it started here but I’m also nervous because we have been working on this for two years. We have been refining the taste and now we are ready.”
