Help spring clean the Greenway in Rushden

People across the district are invited to join East Northamptonshire Council for a day of litter-picking and gardening to help make the Greenway a route for walkers, cyclists and wildlife to enjoy.

On Saturday, March 28, between 10am and midday, and as part of the Out to Water, Into History project, family and friends of the Greenway will be continuing their work on the stretch of the route between Washbrook Road and Crown Park in Rushden to encourage wildlife to make this area their home.

A team of volunteers will also be collecting rubbish and debris to ensure that the Greenway is litter free and an area that everyone can explore.

Fruit and water will be provided for all volunteers by Morrisons.

Leader of East Northamptonshire Council, Cllr Steven North, said: “The Greenway in East Northamptonshire is a brilliant community asset that we continue to work on and build, but couldn’t do so without the help of volunteers and the dedicated Greenway team.

“We would encourage everyone to come along and help give this much-used route a spring clean to ensure that the area remains a place for everyone to enjoy.”

Cllr Sarah Peacock, chairman of the Greenway board, added: “We are proud of the Greenway and always enjoy our litter picking events, they are an excellent opportunity for the community to come together and work towards keeping the route between Washbrook Road and Crown Park in Rushden clean and tidy.”

All volunteers will be provided with litter pickers and sacks, but should bring gloves and if you’d like to get involved, meet the team near Dovehouse Motors in Crown Park, just before 10am on 28 March.
