The family of a 20-year-old woman who grew up in Corby have paid tribute after she died from injuries sustained in a head-on car crash.

Hope Starsmore, a former pupil at Lodge Park Academy, had been battling for her life for eight days but died with her parents at her side yesterday (Thursday).

The Nottingham Trent University student had been airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary after the crash and placed into a medically-induced coma.

In a statement issued last night by Lincolnshire Police, the family said: "After eight days of fighting, Hope has sadly died from her injuries in hospital, with her parents at her side.

"She will be missed dearly and was loved by so many.

"Rest in peace, baby girl.

"We would like to thank everyone for their support and ask that our privacy is respected at this time to allow us to grieve as a family."

Hope had been travelling from Skegness to Nottingham at the time of the crash on October 7, when the Toyota Yaris she was driving was in a collision with a Ford Focus on the A158 at Burgh Le Marsh.
