Traffic cops who stopped a car on a busy motorway arrested four people in connection with the abduction of a girl in Corby.

Warwickshire Police’s Operations Patrol Unit Along with Worcestershire Police performed a ‘tactical’ stop on the silver car on Friday (March 5).

They arrested the occupants - a 21-year-old man, a man aged 24 and a 46-year-old man as well as a 37-year-old woman who were all Romanian.

The arrests occurred on the northbound junction of the M5 and M42 - which is about 72 miles from Corby and more than 100 miles from London where the girl was discovered.

The police Operations Patrol Unit tweeted: "A shift assisted @OPUWarks this evening with a tactical stop on this vehicle M5/M42. Four Romanians arrested and now in custody for the abduction of a 15year old. We will continue to tackle organised crime.”

The suspects were handed over to Northamptonshire Police. A force spokeswoman said: "Just after 5pm on March 5, a 15-year-old girl was reported missing. CCTV showed a vehicle picking her up in Corby.

"Later that evening, she was tracked to the London area and safeguarded.“
