Fundraising event for Wellingborough man Paul to help support cancer treatment
A fundraising event for Paul King, a Swansgate security guard who was diagnosed with advanced cancer last year, will take place at the shopping centre.
A fundraiser event for Paul at Swansgate Shopping Centre, Wellingborough, on Saturday, May 30, from 10am until 3pm, featuring a cake sale, raffle and tombola, hamper prizes, and more.
Melissa King, Paul’s wife, is organising the fundraiser, which will be held at the centre where he worked for more than 17 years.
She said: “We have already been overwhelmed by the kindness of local shops, businesses and members of the Wellingborough community, who have generously donated prizes and support towards the fundraiser. The kindness shown to us so far has honestly been overwhelming, and we are hoping this fundraiser will not only help raise vital funds for Paul’s ongoing treatment, but also bring the community together once again in support of him.

“We have been incredibly grateful that the treatment has shown positive signs and the tumour has responded, giving us more hope and precious time together as a family.
“However, the treatment is ongoing and we are now desperately trying to raise further funds to allow Paul to continue travelling for treatment and keep fighting this disease.”
Organisers are appealing for cake donations, raffle/tombola prizes, local business support, and people to come along and support the event on the day.
Melissa had described Paul as ‘one of the kindest, most gentle people you could ever meet.’
He underwent intensive radiotherapy, but his family was told he wasn’t suitable for chemotherapy due to a heart condition that he has, and the NHS was unable to offer further treatment.
The family has been fundraising with the hope of generating £35,000 to cover travel and accommodation for Paul and a carer to undergo treatment in Europe.
Paul has travelled to Germany three times for ongoing specialist treatment with Professor Vogl, with the family being ‘incredibly grateful’ that treatment has shown positive signs and the tumour has responded.
However, the family says treatment is ongoing, and further funds are sought to allow Paul to continue travelling for treatment and keep fighting this disease.
