Family of Wellingborough man hope his death will raise awareness of mental health

Eugene, 36, struggled with his mental health for several years and his family received the heartbreaking news that it had become too much for him on Christmas Eve.

Since launching a fundraising page to help with the funeral costs, more than £800 has been donated by family and friends as well as anonymous donors.

A date has not yet been set for the funeral, but the family is hoping to give any remaining money to a mental health charity such as Mind.

Eugene's dad Ian Talbot hopes that his son's death will encourage anyone who finds themselves in a similar position to ask for help before it is too late.

He wants to bring to light what can happen, and said: "I would feel better in myself knowing that we have helped someone, if we can just save one person by getting them to talk."

Since Eugene's death, Ian has been touched by the kindness of those who knew him and those who have supported the fundraising.

He said: "People have been so generous, it's incredible.

"A big thank you to all those that have helped with the fundraising."

Eugene worked as a courier driver at DPD in Raunds and lived in Wellingborough.

Friends have described him as 'a barrel of laughs' and his dad said he loved to make everybody laugh.

The father-of-one loved football and was a big Arsenal fan so the family will be asking that people wear red and white for his funeral.

There are also plans for a charity football match in April to raise more funds and awareness about mental health.
