Equipment seized after illegal Northamptonshire rave woke up residents and carried on all day

Two people were arrested and equipment seized after an illegal Northamptonshire rave woke up residents and carried on all day.

Police were called to the isolated field among woods off Oundle Road near Weldon at 11.30pm on Saturday (June 6), when the very loud music started.

Residents as far away as Old Weston – about 24 miles away on the Cambridgeshire border – said they could hear the bass sound and wondered where it was coming.

People in other towns and villages including Thrapston, Clopton, Raunds and Titchmarsh were equally disturbed.

Horse trainer Antonia Brown lives close to the site and was woken by the sound of the rhythmic bass beats, that she mistook for galloping horses.

She said: “It did wake me up, I actually thought it was the sound of horses galloping, but it was the beats. It wasn’t so bad that I couldn’t get back to sleep.

“It continued through the day, and then my husband took the dog for a walk at about 5pm and some of the people were walking about in the woods. He said they looked like they had been partying.

“Once we knew what it was it was fine. They were only having fun. The nights of me partying all night long are long gone.”

Due to the number of people already on the site, the police did not clear the area, only breaking it up after 5pm on Sunday (June 7) bringing it to a ‘safe conclusion’.

A spokeswoman for Northants Police said: “Officers were called to woods just outside Weldon at 11.30pm on Saturday, June 6.

“A road closure was put in place to prevent more people accessing the site, but due to numbers already present, it was not possible to clear the area at that time without putting the public at risk.

“On Sunday (June 7) the event was dispersed by police officers, with two people subsequently arrested for drink/drug drive offences and a large amount of sound equipment seized.

“An investigation has begun to establish what other criminal offences have been committed by those responsible for organising the event.

“Officers from the Corby Neighbourhood Policing Team will maintain a visible police presence in the area and will engage with landowners following the event.”
