Early morning A14 crash with lorry leaves van driver with 'serious life-threatening injuries'

A van driver in his 30s has been left with 'serious life-threatening injuries' after his vehicle and a lorry collided on the A14.

The crash took place on the eastbound carriageway at about 5.30am today (Tuesday, January 27), just minutes after another crash between two lorries that caused traffic queues.

Northants Police are asking for witnesses to the collision between a flatbed white Iveco Daily and a blue Volvo HGV lorry to contact the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

A spokesman for Northants Police said: “Witnesses are being sought after a serious road traffic collision on the A14 eastbound carriageway.

“At about 5.20am, a collision occurred between Junctions 1 and 2 of the eastbound carriageway between two HGV lorries.

“This caused a queue of traffic and about ten minutes later at 5.30am, there was a separate collision about half a mile down the road between a flatbed white Iveco Daily and a blue Volvo HGV lorry.

“As a result of this collision, the driver of the Iveco - a man in his 30s - was taken to University Hospital Coventry with serious life-threatening injuries.

“Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage that captured either of the two collisions.

“Anyone with information is asked to email [email protected] or call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615 or Northamptonshire Police on 101.

“Please quote incident number 26000050954 when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible.”
