But this is not the first time Kilborn Road, which has a long straight section and is surrounded by green open space, has been the subject of a speeding operation.

The Northants Telegraph has reported on checks carried out along this road with a 30mph limit following concerns from residents in recent years.

Police also carried out checks in Gipsy Lane, Irchester, yesterday and reported seven offences.

A spokesman for Northants Police said: "We are continuing to enforce across the county focusing on our core sites, which are as a result of either collision history or community concern backed up by speed data.

"Our enforcement patterns and times are random - any drivers caught committing offences will be processed and prosecuted as usual."

The spokesman added that they will continue to use the mobile speed camera vans despite the coronavirus crisis as they will not tolerate people using the empty roads as a racetrack.
