Date for when weekly food waste collections should start in Kettering and Wellingborough revealed
North Northants Council has revealed when weekly food waste collections for residents in Kettering and Wellingborough will hopefully start.
While a food waste service is already running in the East Northants and Corby areas, the go-ahead for it to extend to the Wellingborough and Kettering areas was given the green light in 2024 by the previous North Northants Council (NNC) Conservative-run executive committee.
Despite the government making the new kerbside collection a national requirement, starting from yesterday (April 1), the spring deadline was not met.

It has now been revealed that NNC is aiming to start weekly food waste recycling collection for all properties in the Kettering and Wellingborough areas in September 2026.
A spokesman for NNC said: “Changes are currently being made to food waste recycling so that the service is available across the whole of North Northamptonshire, harmonising with the service already in place in Corby and East Northamptonshire areas.
"The council is in the process of finalising delivery dates of vehicles, with the current aim to launch in September 2026.
"The start date is, however, dependent on the supplier of the vehicles and we will communicate with residents as soon as we have a confirmed date.”
The new weekly food waste service will run alongside other collections already in operation, with no changes to the frequency of collections for current recycling and general waste collections which will continue on a fortnightly cycle.
