Council grounds team's tree planting efforts given top Wellingborough award

Tree planting efforts by a council grounds team has won them a top Wellingborough award.

The annual award by Wellingborough Civic Society is given to either a traditional building that has been sympathetically repurposed or a project of benefit to the local community.

This year, members voted to present the prize to the North Northamptonshire Council grounds services team for the rejuvenation of Croyland Gardens and the planting of 700 trees across the town.

At a ceremony in Croyland Gardens attended by committee members, Wellingborough Civic Society chairman Edeltraud Freund, handed over the award to Jamie Featon, grounds service officer and members of the team.

He said: “We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Wellingborough Civic Society for this generous award. For your recognition of our efforts to rejuvenate Croyland Gardens and plant several hundred trees around Wellingborough. This means so much to our team.

"This award not only celebrates the work completed but also inspires us to continue creating green, usable, vibrant spaces for future generations.

A silver birch was planted to commemorate the occasion.
