Corby Town Council is set to host the town’s first ever Pride event next year and held a meeting last night (October 17) in order to get the community involved.

The meeting was held at Stephenson Way Community Centre and was hosted to get the opinions and ideas of those from the community.

Cllr Callum Reilly said: “I’m really pleased with the turnout. We’ve said from the beginning we want this to be focused around our people in our town, to make sure that they should help us to shape it.

“Having such a good turnout has been a really good start. It’s given us quite a lot of encouragement and energy to really go with it.

“There were lots of good ideas. We’ve just got to be realistic. We want to start and we want to build on it as the years go on. We start small and we make it impressionable.

“Taking into account what everybody said today, I think there’s a lot to go back to and really build upon.”

Many topics were discussed at the event including what entertainment should be included on the day, how long should the event last and should there be a parade.

So far, nothing is confirmed for the event, but the intention was for the meeting to be an interactive experience, giving people a chance to shape the event in ways they think will be good.

If you were not able to attend the meeting, you can still have your say as there is an online form which covers the topics that were discussed during the meeting.
