A Corby rugby coach will take on a seven-day challenge to run a half-marathon every 24 hours to raise money for accessible facilities at his team's clubhouse.

S&L Rugby Club's Nathan Hand, a senior club member, player and current U12s coach, will take on the gruelling ultra-running challenge starting on Sunday, February 7.

Nathan will attempt seven half-marathons in seven consecutive days to inspire people to donate to help raise funds for the design and installation of disabled facilities at the Occupation Road clubhouse.

Nathan said: “Covering 21.1km, seven days in a row is going to be tough. We are off to a great start with sponsors so far, and every pound we raise towards improving the accessibility of our clubhouse will make the hard work well worth it, so bring it on.”

"I feel good at the minute. My training has gone well and I’m in good condition physically. I’ve also got a good team of people helping with preparation, nutrition and recovery plus some running mates that will support me on the way and help keep me motivated and focussed - within the current lockdown rules of course.

"The thing I’m most concerned about is the unknown. I’ve never done a challenge like this before and with this amount of running there is always the risk of injury, so fingers crossed that doesn’t happen.

"We’ve raised a great amount so far, nearly £2,000 including our commercial sponsors, so I'm well beyond my target already."

Nathan has been training for the event over the past four weeks and has racked up over 300km this year already.

His routes will start and end at the S&L clubhouse and take him on a tour around Corby.

Already a keen runner, he wanted to put his effort into helping a good cause and use it to make a make difference to the local community.

Following on from last year's180k cycling fundraising success by club member Tom Manson, Nathan is undertaking his challenge to help raise funds for the design and installation of disabled facilities and female changing rooms at the clubhouse.

Club head coach, Tom Cleary, added: “What a fantastic challenge Nathan is undertaking and all for a fantastic cause to take us closer to our goal of having an extension built to facilitate a disability lift and disabled toilets.

"Our club has the motto ‘One club, Our Club’ and Nathan’s seven half marathons in seven day challenge embodies this.

"A selfless challenge to hopefully give access to all who want to visit our club in the future. It is something Nathan is very passionate about and I’m looking forward to supporting him throughout this challenge in any way I can and hope all of our members can jump on this also. Let’s show our #oneclubourclub support.”
