Principal Glyn Rushton in a letter said: "We have been made aware of a member of our academy community who have tested positive for Covid-19.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness.

"The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

"The academy remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well.

"If your child develops symptoms of Covid-19, they must not come to the academy and should remain at home for at least ten days from the date when their symptoms appeared."

Parents and carers were given advice on how to recognise the symptoms of coronavirus and what to do.

Mr Rushton said: "I can confirm we have had a positive Covid result within the Academy community. The safety and health of all the children and adults in our Academy community are our utmost concern and as such, our plans for such an eventuality were immediately put into place taking into account guidelines from PHE, UK Government and specific advice from the DfE advice line."
