Corby Council have pleaded with local people to stay off playground equipment after people were seen flouting the rules just two days after they were imposed.

In order to keep people safe and limit the spread of coronavirus, the council closed all of its leisure facilities on Tuesday.

But this afternoon (Thursday, March 26), our reporters went out to West Glebe Park and within five minutes, saw several people using the gym equipment, swings and gathering on the skate park.

The government banned use of all outdoor play areas across the country as part of draconian measures to limit the chances of the virus spreading.

A Corby Council spokeswoman said that despite the warnings, people were still continuing to gather at play areas, adding: "In line with Government instruction, Corby Borough Council would like to remind residents that gathering at play areas is not classed as social distancing.

"Whilst the council cannot physically close these areas, we strongly advise residents to avoid play areas for their own and others safety during the Covid-19 pandemic."
