Corby's annual Gang Show has become the latest social gathering to be cancelled due to the coronavirus.

The show Loud and Proud, featuring a cast of Corby Scouts and Guides, was to run for four days starting tonight (Wednesday) at The Core theatre at the Corby Cube.

More than 40 cast members, backed up by 40 crew, have been rehearsing weekly since last October for the spectacular show.

Mark Phipps, Corby Gang Show director said: "It's upsetting for the youngsters but we're in lockdown.

"I'm disappointed but it's far more important to look at the wellbeing of the youngsters and the people coming to see us."

On Monday, the Scout Association and Girl Guiding association issued instructions that all meetings were to be cancelled for at least three months.

Mr Phipps said: "This news is devastating to all involved, but the safety of everyone involved in the show and the people who were coming to see us is our utmost priority.

"A massive thank you to the cast, parents, support team and the Core staff for their commitment to Corby Gang Show 2020 and their continued support as we see ourselves through this difficult situation."

The Corby Gang Show was to celebrate over 60 years of performing with a 'bigger, better, louder and prouder than ever before'.

He added: "We are currently in negotiations with the Core theatre on when we will be able to reschedule the show for later in the year. Hopefully it will be in September but we don't even know if we will be able to meet for rehearsals.

"We're not quite sure of the financial implications. We have the costs of publicity and programmes and we will still have to pay The Core for the use of the rehearsal space."

The Core at Corby Cube was due to issue a statement today regarding the coronavirus crisis.
