A Corby family-run shop is set to re-open its Rockingham Road doors to socially-distancing customers after a seven-week closure with a new range of cakes and bakes perfected during lockdown.

As well as working on new mouth-watering recipes, Butterwick owners Ryan and Fiona Scarborough have been juggling home-schooling with creating their new delivery service which goes live on Monday, May 18.

Ryan said: "We are looking forward to seeing our customers and I'm feeling optimistic . People who are on their daily walk can pop in for coffee and cake - but only two at a time.

"We have a glass counter anyway and we have put screens up to protect everyone.

"People will have to use their common sense to queue outside two metres apart."

The family-run bakery opened its doors in September and was becoming a favourite destination for customers on the lookout for an artisan sweet treat.

An expansion of the bakery to include an outdoor seating area had to be put on hold as planning meetings were postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Due to the lockdown, Ryan has been able to devote more time to setting up the Butterwick online service where customers can have their favourite delicacies delivered to their front door or collect them from the shop.

Nine months after they switched production and sales of their home-based celebration cakes to their new shop, the ‘cakery’ products will be available through the Royal Mail.

Their range of cakes has dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan options and includes biscuits and buns, cakes and cookies, that are baked to order, and are packaged and posted out on the day they are baked.

Ryan said: “You can choose from one of our three box sizes, pick which bakes to fill it with, and then choose to collect in store when it’s ready or get it delivered to your door.

"If you simply cannot make up your mind which bakes to go for, our team of bakers will choose for you with our 'Bakers Choice' boxes that are full of specially selected items."

"We hope that the new postal service will mean that people from further afield will be able to enjoy Butterwick and that people enjoying their unlimited exercise time will come and pick a coffee and cake."
