A group of taxi drivers from Corby pledged their time for free to help ensure local children were able to get a good meal inside them this half-term holiday.

Kind-hearted Corby Hackney Owners Association (CHOA), which includes Sky Cab shareholders and independent owners, volunteered to deliver meals funded by Corby Council and made up by staff at the Autumn Centre in Counts Farm Road.Borough and county councillor John McGhee and Simon Rielly, Labour Party unitary candidate, sorted deliveries into runs for the taxi drivers who used their local experience to deliver them to needy families.

Councillor McGhee said: "The volunteer taxi drivers have been fantastic and made a potential logistics nightmare into a great experience for all at the Autumn centre and our families. Thank you all so much."

Sky Cabs shareholder Robert McArther is also collecting money in his cab (number 54) by generously donating all tips received from members of the public into a fund to go to the Autumn Centre to help those struggling in the run up to Christmas.

A fundraising page will be set up shortly for any members of the public wanting to donate.
