A Corby mum who was supported in her hour of need by the community has vowed to give something back to those needing help during the pandemic.

Corby Jet Carz owner Amanda Brown, 46, was left running the family firm set up by her husband Gary after he died in 2019 from a stroke aged just 48.

The pair had worked together establishing the airport transfer business for 16 years and in the days after his sudden death, the people of Corby rallied round to help Amanda, and her children Ryan, and daughter Bethany, - who were 24 and 16 at the time.

Amanda said: "When it happened we were so supported by the people in the local area - that's what the people of Corby are like.

"They brought us food and were so supportive so I want to give back to that community."

The taxi firm that usually provides travel to airports has offered its fleet of four cars to people in the community to enable them to get to their vaccination appointment.

All the cars used by the company have screens between the passenger and driver and are Covid compliant and are currently being used to transport vulnerable children on the school run.

It was after a discussion with Corby Jet Carz manager, David Richards, that the idea was put into action.

Amanda said: "We don't want anyone to be sitting at home missing their vaccination appointment. We need to get everyone vaccinated and then we can move on. Things have been especially bad in Corby with high numbers.

"I had a meeting with the drivers and they are desperate to help and will work free of charge. I am going to be financing it.

"We are all concerned that there are elderly people out there who don't have help. What spurred us on was getting calls from people needing to get to their vaccinations - we can help people in Corby and the surrounding villages.

"If it wasn't for David the business wouldn't have kept going after Gary's death. We're digging in to keep the business going now.

"We just want to help."
