Conservatives beat Reform and Green in Northamptonshire town council by-election

The Conservative Party’s candidate Cameron Clarke has beaten Reform UK and Green rivals in a Rushden Town Council by-election.

A turnout of 22.9 percent saw support for all of the candidates in the Rushden South ward secure several hundreds of votes each.

Sadly the election had been triggered by the death of councillor Bob Tillyer, with his successor Cllr Clarke thanking the electorate for their support.

He said: “Thank you to everyone who voted for me and to those who voted Conservative for the first time. I feel absolutely great. This is for Rushden, this [win] belongs to Rushden.”

The result in East Northants bucked the trend from neighbouring Corby where two Reform candidates were elected to its town’s council in by-elections.
