A concerned resident contacted the Northants Telegraph about four horses on land opposite the Tesco store at Victoria Park.

The resident claims the animals have no hay or water, are overdue a farrier and are currently being tormented by a stallion.

And they added: "They have been there for far too long and the RSPCA are taking no action."

The group is made up of three mares and one stallion for breeding, with their ages ranging from two to 22-years-old.

This resident also says the horses have been 'knee high in flood water and have awful mud and grass.'

The Northants Telegraph contacted the RSPCA about the claims.

In response, a spokesman for the charity said: "An officer in the area has been made aware of recent concerns for horses kept in this area of Wellingborough, however, we have not received any information directly to our cruelty line.

"The local team of officers monitor the welfare of many horses in the area including these horses, and will look into these recent concerns.

"We can only act when the law has been broken.

"Due to current restrictions during lockdown, our officers are having to prioritise the animals most in need of urgent help or rescue."

These recent concerns about horses in the area come just two months after the RSPCA joined forces with a number of partner equine welfare organisations to remove 43 horses from fields off Irthlingborough Road in Wellingborough due to welfare concerns.

The spokesman said the RSPCA nationally has more than 900 horses in its care and horse welfare is a major area of work for them.
