An Irthlingborough family have been so appalled by the amount of litter left in county beauty spots that they have taken up their pickers and bin bags vowing to do their bit to help.

Outdoor fans Kayleigh and Graeme Biles like to take regular walks with their sons Jenson, four, and two-year-old Finley in the countryside around their Crow Hill home.

As lockdown has been eased, the family has been able to venture further afield but they noticed that the litter problem has got worse, prompting Kayleigh to take action.

She said: "We have been gone for long walks and since lockdown we have been going for walks near our house but we noticed that the litter seemed to be much worse.

"After finding a load more rubbish on a walk, instead of picking it up with our hands I decided to order some proper litter pickers. We've each got one each so the boys don't argue.

"We went for a picnic at the Embankment in Wellingborough. Afterwards we did a litter pick, there were bread bags from where people had fed the ducks, cans and bottles everywhere. We filled a whole big black bin bag.

"The bins were quite full and I think some might have blown out of them. We pulled a few empty bread bags out of the water and then we did a litter pick along the road."

Careworker Kayleigh is no stranger to keeping her neighbourhood tidy as she regularly picks up rubbish she finds in her street.

She added: "We always take our rubbish home again if we have a picnic.

"This is going to be our new family thing. The boys have loved doing it.They don't need a reward. We keep ourselves safe and always clean our hands.

"Hopefully it will encourage others to do the same. People should think about what they are doing and take their litter home."
