Cats saved as crews tackle house fire in Wellingborough

Six crews from Wellingborough and Rushden were called to the blaze at a property in Birchfield Road, Wellingborough, at 10am yesterday (Wednesday).

A spokesman for Northants Fire & Rescue Service said a man in his 30s was treated for shock but there were no other injuries.

And the spokesman added: "Nine cats were rescued from the property with all of them being given oxygen therapy.

"Two sadly died but the remaining seven are being cared for at the vets.

"Four of them were resuscitated by the fire crews."
