Cat crisis at Northamptonshire Animals In Need as charity taking 'non-stop calls' from people asking for help

A Northamptonshire charity with more than 70 cats in its care has described the situation as a ‘crisis.’

Animals In Need based at Pine Tree Farm in Little Irchester, near Wellingborough is currently looking after dozens of cats.

While the charity was set up 35 years ago to rescue and rehome animals, sanctuary manager Annie Marriott said it is ‘relentless’ at the moment with cats coming through their doors.

Annie said: “It’s just tragic.

"We have over 70 cats in our care and receive non-stop calls from people asking for help.”

Annie described the state that some of them are arriving in as ‘sickening’ with many having ringworm, fleas and emaciated.

And she added: “It’s relentless.

"I started the community neuter clinic to try and stop this situation and we have neutered over 500 cats for the public this year, but it’s worse than ever.

"It is so very sad.”

The charity has been running its Snip & Chip programme for around 18 months now as part of its wider efforts to tackle the growing number of unwanted cats and kittens entering rescue.

The aim of the programme is to help reduce the number of unwanted cats being born in the first place, helping to tackle the problem at its source rather than simply trying to find homes for an ever-increasing number of cats.

If you can rehome a cat or any of the other animals at Animals In Need, call 01933 278080 or email [email protected]

Any cats which are rehomed leave the charity neutered, fully vaccinated, ID chipped and parasite treated with four weeks’ free insurance and rescue back up for life.
